How PR can be your smoking gun in 2021

With such an anomaly of a year, so many businesses were left scratching their head on the best way forward. As we enter 2021, the blur has become much clearer on the way that businesses can again survive and thrive.

If we look under the hood of why things are shopped, it's clear that people support the brands they know and trust, and a big part of this comes from third party endorsement such as friends, placement in the media, or social media.
Get friendly with content
People find brands through friends, who find products and services through content. A form of PR is content. There is a lesson here though, content needs to be giving and not selling. It needs to be value based, and based around a cause beyond your business. As people continue to look for brands they connect with, with more meaning and more purpose; it's these brands that people will shop with.
Share your brand story
Looking at this through a wider lens, those brands who are consistently visible through valuable content which is focused on a story, are those who tend to be more successful. Sharing your brand story to the right audience, especially now, will allow you to achieve growth, and sustain your brand position. Now is not the time to be silent. People are looking for high levels of trust and connections with brands, and it's authenticity that builds exactly that.
The smoking gun
Yes your business might need to reevaluate and downsize media spend, but you should not be kyboshing your communications - social media, blogs, LinkedIn articles, newsletters, and content ideas - at least not completely. It's what you give back to your audience that builds trust and connections, and right now that's what every customer is craving.
